Potty Training.... I am totally clueless as to who came up with the term.
I was completely clueless as to how to attempt this and who knows if Jonathan gets or understands the concept. Pee goes in the potty.
There are about as many methods of doing this as people with actual experience.
I warn you Google will blow your mind, if not just leave you just plain confounded.
Thank goodness that there are a few good mommies out there with experience that gave me some pointers.
No one told me how absolutely frustrating it would be to watch him play bare bottomed in the house have no result and as soon as I could get the nap diaper on did he nearly pee through his diaper...
Yep, he was holding it for real... After his nap same thing only I was smarter. I was watching him do the potty dance (that no one had to teach him- he came pre equipped) I said if you put your pee in the potty you get a treat... Almost instantaneous he decided okay because he did it. so now we know there is comprehension of this concept only he was testing me.
I'm not one for bribing in general but that how it worked the first time. Andrew is getting some m&m's that he LOVES. After we took food to Andrew at his work, we then went and got a milkshake.
We had previously attempted this without the potty chair only to leave him totally freaked out of the toilet.
This is our first success and hopefully not our last.
wow. I hope K is that easy to convince! She will sit on her potty with and w/out the diaper but will not do anything in it and dare I let her go bare she will pee where she stands!
ReplyDeleteSounds like progress!!
ReplyDeleteSome things that worked with my son, fruit loops in the potty, and have him aim to hit them.
For J my oldest girl we did stickers. Everytime she went potty she got a sticker to put on her chart. If she got X amount of stickers she got a treat after dinner. We would increase the number of stickers weekly. Started out small something like 2 stickers per day, then went to 4 stickers..
Rylee, yeah I was lazy. At 18 months we started working with her, but it wasn't until she was 3 that it caught on. We let her go at her pace, and didn't push it.
Good Luck!!
