Tuesday night life

OK a friend of mine asked me to ocasionally blog about different things that happen from day to day in my life, but somehow before that let me talk about yesterday.
Yesterday was a really busy and semi stressful day as Jonathan had a test to go take at the pre-k center. I was nervous both for Jonathan and myself as I know how important it is that he gets the things he needs to succeed and preschool would definitely help him.
As you read in the previous entry how that went and how my stomach was totally in knots.
We came home had some grapes or goldfish crackers for a snack and I put Jonathan down for a nap.
Jonathan got back up from his nap and apparently was still tired. He was ok but for a while he was clearly frustrated again. He gets frustrated because mommy doesn't understand jibberish .
Mommy is beginning to think that Jonathan is not hearing himself or something, and is clearly trying to say something..Just it never seems to come out right.

Andrew got home at about 5 pm and we all got in the car and left for church in Charlotte. Andrew is taking a class and so am I and there are many things to choose from.
We got to the church and it was cold outside. we got inside (rather Jonathan dragged me walking so fast)
Found out where it was we were supposed to be going... Had a couple of akward moments and lost my drink I had brought. I laugh about this now but at the time I was confused.
We went and found a place to sit down and not knowing anyone we sit down and eat.
Take our kids to kidstown get to chit chattin with the folks there...never gave it a second thought although I refuse to let my guard down with strangers regarding my kids.
Went to class... well, turns out the class I went to the teacher didn't show. We got a replacement which was confusing. People in the class were ok but apparently they all KNEW each other. You could tell they were wearing name tags for me I guess.
a little later we all go to another room where there is a worship service. That was an ok deal but the issues being discused were a bit too much for me at the end of the day. If it were morning it would have been just as difficult but easier to process.
The service ends and Andrew and I go get our kids. we go get Jonathan and we comes willingly for once. We go get Daniel and the same really nice mommy who watched him asks me about Daniel's rash and I tell her it's probably food alllergies. she was ok about it but I just don't want to ever go through the dss thing again . I told her about Jonathan's allergies and what we went through with the dss because no one ever bothered to ask.
I don't want trouble or drama ever again but that really bothers me every time someone takes my children that don't know me that well yet.
I know I probably went about it the wrong way and we were all crying. I just want to know people and not feel like I've been placed in some kind of cruel isolation with my family with no chance of ever knowing anyone. I don't like that at all and I hope God understands that I question why that all happened in the first place.
I question why Jonathan has the delays he does and why things happened the way that they did after his birth. I don't hate God, but infact I am a follower of him and just love him a lot. I just have questions that everyone else has too, I am no different.
That's enough for me.

Testing, Testing 123

We have been really busy. With Jonathan about to turn three years old we are in what feels like neck deep in evaluations. Last Saturday we had him evaluated for Occupational Therapy to see where he was at since our family wasn't being told what he was working on in therapy ever and never allowed me to be there with him or to know what was happening.
Other than being PO'd about that(it wouldn't do us any good now) we just want to know where he was at in all of that.

We will have the results of that evaluation back soon.
Today we went to the scholl district's pre-k center to have him re evaluated since he totally shunned the speech therapist lady during the child find appointment.
He did well, but mommy well, I was nervous leaving him with strangers. It tied me in knots enough that about 20 mins. into the eval I asked to go see where my son was and peek through the window and they let me.
First time in about 18 months that I at least asked to see something and got my request granted. That felt great and here I am feeling good that some things are finally turning in Jonathan's favor.
What I want for Jonathan as far as the school thing goes: If he needs special help or speech therapy or what ever fine then, let him get what he needs and don't stand in the way of getting him the help or services he needs to succeed in the future.
If you want to call him disabled or developmentally delayed go ahead but I ask of you not to do that in front of my child. Jonathan's delay doesn't change who Jonathan is. It doesn't change how proud I am of him, and it won't change how much I love this growing little boy.
Yes, he is slowly learning how to talk. Eventually I know he will do great and knock everyone's socks off with his intelligence.
I am just so happy that in the last month He has done more in the way of language and just the fact he jumped and his feet left the floor.
Now we wait and pray and in the meantime we move across town.
Daniel is doing great and according to his pediatrician is right on track with his development. That is a big relief for me and my husband as we know the battles we would have to go through again to get him help too.
Where would I be without people around me who cheer us on and encourage me that the sooner we get him helped the better off he will be in school.
Isn't that the wish if every parent for their kids? Well, it's been mine forever it seems.

Our life...Hills and valleys

Ok, Looking at the last two weeks I probably have been busier than anything.
We have had some breakthroughs that are wonderful and also some setbacks. It is just part of life. There are hills and valleys that we all go through. We all have been sick in our house and although the kids are now well, I am having problems with my sinuses, meanwhile Andrew has bronchitis...
Daniel is a healthy 21 pounds 6 oz. and is 27 inches. TIME to go get a CONVERTIBLE car seat and turn it rear facing.
Yesterday marked 4 years since we lost our baby Samuel. Not a day goes by that I don't think about life since. I am very happy, not about the loss of that baby but that we have Jonathan who is according to everyone around him a very loving child. We will someday far down the road tell Jonathan but for now we will just remember these days.
Jonathan has been talking a whole lot more since we changed speech therapist. It wasn't something we changed but by default since the therapist left we stayed and someone else took him on. I am so happy. His current favorite letter is V. We have a fridge fonics alphabet thingy and he loves it.
We have stopped using signs(sign language) and are encouraging him to talk. It was confusing the folks we were leaving him with at Kidstown and we also want him to make another step forward in his progress.
He likes Handy Manny and a new channel called Sprout... he also loves to dance and especially with mommy :)
Daniel is now in the beginning stages of introducing food and is in a pre stage of crawling... he loves to sit up. We love his smile and laugh and it makes my day hearing his laugh and hearing Jonathan too.
Jonathan has two tests this next week. Saturday he has an occupational therapy eval, and on Tuesday he gets an evaluation from the school district preschool to see if he qualifies. I hope that if he needs it he can get what he needs. We have always having trouble advocating for what he needs and have to constantly prove he needs it.
That's all for me right now.

Go take a look at this.

I just stumbled upon a blog and for those of you that know me... this was me right after we had Jonathan but it is someone else if you catch what I am saying.

http://www.kellyskornerblog.com/2009/01/sunday-night.html

Take a minute to read this and if you are the praying type please pray. This family needs it and is believing in God's goodness.

I know first hand what it is like to have a baby and totally be shocked like they were. Our hearts go out to them and hope they all heal from this.
For those of you with kiddos please hug your kids extra. And for all of my Nicu grads mommies/dads, and all of our MOD(March of Dimes) friends Thank you for your love and advice. I am forever grateful for the support you all gave me during and after our Journey(s) (there were 2 of them).
That is all for me.
Blessings

Life as a mom to Jonathan and Daniel

Not sure how I am going to say it but I am so proud of Jonathan. He has come a super long way.
That being said I am a bit annoyed at his occupational therapist. All I will say is we know you aren't really trained in kids but you SHOULD know that it is NEVER acceptable to show your anger or disapproval about my son or any other child in front of that particular kid. Jonathan is very sensitive and as his mom I will not allow anyone to talk about him that way(especially not in front of him).
I really felt like letting her have it verbally, but decided it would do no good as I've made several attempts to get her to tell me what the heck she is doing with him in his therapy with no reply.
Next step will be contacting the administrator or just calling my insurance company. This should be against the law to not communicate what is happening with my child or allowing me to witness therapy through a 2 way mirror.
Now I feel absolutely horrible about how this lady acted and has constantly tried to label him even though we have a doctor and several specialists that can say he has a delay.
Hasn't everyone heard every kid is different and they all develop differently and at different speeds.
Daniel has already rolled over both ways and can grab stuff and transfer objects from hand to hand. This amazes both me and Andrew.
Being parents is hard enough but throw in Jonathan's issues and we are always expecting angelic help...
We know we have angelic help and people praying for Jonathan and that is so very comforting to us. Just to know we aren't alone and loved, that means the world to me.
Blessings

You know you are a parent of a boy

When...
A commercial for a monster truck race totally creates total AWE in your child.
Who knew...That Jonathan loves this stuff, well maybe until we get to the event and it's too freaking loud for him...Ask us about the Super Bowl party from two years ago, that he cried every time everyone started cheering.
You know you have a boy when you hear yourself constantly saying something along the lines of don't jump off the furniture, you'll hurt yourself... Or here's another one don't throw your toys.
Who knew I'd ever be saying anything of this sort, but I enjoy having these boys immensely and would not trade them or what they do for anything in the world. :)

October 28th-All Shook up

No this is not about some Elvis Song...

I have to back up for a minute to tell you what was going on this morning...
After I got the kids in the car and got to therapy with Jonathan on our normal Tuesday morning routine...
After Jonathan's Occupational therapist told me she was concerned about his vision... and I am at a point where I feel frustrated and accused of doing nothing when in reality I've taken him to the doctor twice over it.

I went out into the front Lobby of Piedmont Hospital. I always meet people, some I see weekly as they visit people that are there in their church, some are friends of people who are sick. Some are there like me, waiting for a family member to come out of rehab or radiology. I have even run into some people I know that I hadn't seen in a long time.
Love the older women who love to come say hello and see Daniel sleep and say what a quiet child I have... LOL if they only knew THAT was his peaceful time of the day and the rest is spent screaming.

Today was different...
There was a family there and at first I thought they were all very close group of friends.
A couple really big guys were just really openly upset although it wasn't until later that I found out why. My heart broke for them and I didn't know why.
Here's why and one of them just told me: Their family has gone through 8 deaths in their family/friends in the year 2008 from everything from accidents, to murders to cancer. They had an aunt who was in the final stages of cancer and the family had been called to the hospital to decide how to proceed since it was her wish to not have to suffer. He did however say that through everything they have all learned that God is there to be their strength and they had to lean on Him and each other.
I cannot imagine what they have gone through this year, how they have been able to function under all of that.
I have friends- dear ones that have been through multiple losses and their faith amazes me, even though I have myself gone through that twice, I cannot fathom it happening over and over... my heart routinely is challenged to walk a mile in their sandals and go through their heartbreak. My heart breaks every time a friend loses a baby, a loved one or a pet...

Today I just questioned my whole perspective because of that whole encounter, and rather than think oh my stuff is petty compared to that, I felt as though God was trying to tell me it's all important although some may be way more serious...He cares about it all.
I am just thankful that our family's health is great at the moment and that we are loved the same.
I also know that I hate cancer with a PASSION. It's taken way too many of our friends and relatives and I so HATE it... I will however keep praying for folks like BJ, and Fred who are battling that beast and for kids like Victoria who prove that even at age 5 they still can trust God in their horrible situation. I pray for everyone daily.
That's all for me right now...
